If you could see our garage it looks like a retail store (well, my husband does work corporate for a major auto retailer). We have every car wipe, tire care, interior, exterior and grease cleaner and they are all lined up in rows. Then Grease Monkey wipes arrived.

This summer I sat our youngest down as we do all our boys through the years and made a summer learning plan. On one hand I do not want to destroy their summer break, yet I know that the summer slide is real and it can take several weeks to get back into learning mode when it has disappeared so many months. In all of my research and own trials, just 20 minutes a day is enough. So, I try to find fun ways to incorporate some learning.

Anthony had asked for some animation tablet accessories for his birthday last spring and has been wanting to learn to use it. We discovered Outschool that has so many online courses for kids from subjects to how-to’s like how to make your own animation videos, how to code, etc. and STEM-inspired. They even have different ‘video game’ related learning. He found a course and we signed up: How To Make Awesome Animated Movies.

Here is a very brief overview of Anthony’s course below:

Anthony logged on every Thursday from 3-3:50 for 4 weeks. Each week they were given a lesson and then for the week had a (fun) assignment to share next class.

Once you register for a course at Outschool or even join their email list you get notified every time new classes start or are added. There are so many! And some classes are just a couple of dollars. You see who teaches the classes and can click on their profiles, options for class times and all you will need before day one such as programs to download or equipment you’ll need, etc. By the time the class starts everyone should be ready to roll so it is seamless.

Being as how my son took a class that mainly consisted of his age group (you can sort classes by age group so younger kids don’t end up in teens classes and vice versa) some kids were setting up solo and needed extra help, but the Teacher was good about allowing a few moments to walk these kids through it and move on for the rest of the class. You always have access to direct message your Teacher too if you have questions you need to ask without the entire class. It was a fun experience and a great way to add some extra learning at home.

The Most Overrated and Underrated Baby Products, Parent Survey & Giveaway

Have you viewed or had to create a baby registry lately? There is a lot out there! So many toys, bath products, bottles, bedding and more to choose from and all like to make their unique claims of ‘best’, ‘safest’, ‘number 1’ and how do you know what you’ll really need or not need?

Offers.com knows about shopping as well as deals and trends and they recently used Google Surveys to ask actual parents how they shop. We also asked which baby products they’ve deemed overrated — and underrated.

Starting with the most overrated and underrated products there were 5-6 listed in each category. The top overrated product came as the wipe warmer. I am not surprised, are you? I had one gifted to me when my son was born and I think I used it once then just realized I will have many opened wipe bags in almost every room I will be grabbing for as I need and I never would intentionally go grab my wipes from the one warmer.

The most underrated baby product came in as the white noise machine. I use white noise, all 3 of our boys ages 11-27 (still) use white noise and it does wonders for baby too. Trapping the white noise eliminates outside noise and I feel is a must in every nursery. What To Expect found that the top-rated white noise machine is the Marpac Dohm Elite that is available at Target.

More survey answers were, which items made up the majority of your baby registry and the top answer was practical items (such as diapers). The top store parents used to register with was Target and Pampers won as top diaper brand.

Now about spending! 21% of parents surveyed say that having kids has caused them to shop less often to control finances. The majority also saying they are only willing to spend under $100 a month on baby food and diapers. The last category was a fun one, asking parents that if they had extra funds to use anywhere for baby the majority say they would spend it on clothing.

What do you think? I feel this is accurate and in line from what I see. If I am surprised by any answer it may be the last one. My initial thought would be that most parents would want the extra money for techy products like higer quality baby monitors, etc.
