Grand-Daddy Day Care (2019) – Review

Grand-Daddy Daycare is a light-hearted drama and comedy combined in a movie starring Danny Trejo, Reno Wilson, Margaret Avery, Anthony Gonzalez and more.

Synopsis

When Frank Collins (Reno Wilson) suffers from writer’s block, he decides to start a day care for his father-in-law (Danny Trejo) and other seniors as a way to make quick cash, while giving him time to still work on his next book. Eventually getting a small group to care for, Frank soon learns that these are not your typical seniors and they can’t easily be corralled. With a code enforcement officer challenging the legality of his business, and his senior charges getting into all kinds of trouble, Frank’s work days become anything but effortless. Featuring an all-star cast of TV’s greatest stars, Grand-Daddy Day Care is a hilarious story for the young, and young at heart.

Review

Grand-Daddy Day Care began in what seemed like a predictable story. A family is struggling financially and needs a plan to earn income quickly. I wondered where this can be in relation to the Daddy Day Care movies we all know.

There is a very small relation about half way through the movie. The connection to the Daddy Day Care movies is a fun connection, but Grand-Daddy Day Care is more refreshing and although appears predictable, you will be surprised at the direction many scenes actually take you.

Then you find some heart-warming moments. I can’t remember the last time I saw a film that simply celebrated having a heart for the elderly and sending the message that “…You’re old! That doesn’t mean you’re useless”. This is a great family-friendly movie night feature.
