Top 3 UV Protection Tips for the end of summer
I just seems like yesterday that I was thinking UV protection and now we are needing to focus on UV repair. How did you do this summer? Did anyone burn or get too much sun exposure? Are you proud of the coverage you provided your family from the UV rays? Did you know that there are 3 major parts of your body that suffer the most damage from any lack of UV protection? The three areas are your eyes, skin and hair!
Tip #1-Protect your Eyes

Did you keep your sunglasses handy this summer? Sunglasses are not just meant for less distracted driving or to stop the annoying squinting. Glasses are about the single most important defense to UV rays you can wear along with sunscreen. Why? Because overexposure to UV rays can lead to eye problems such as macular degeneration, cataracts and even non-cancerous growths on the surface of the eye (ouch) or cancer of the eye or eyelids. And did you know you can get a sunburn in your eye? This can leave you blind for days and is very dangerous. Hopefully, you are not left with any issues after this summer and now you know that even as summer ends, the UV rays still exist. Keep protecting the eyes.
If you are a glasses wearer, visit your eye center today for the best UV protection eyewear you can get. If you are a contact wearer like me, do what I did and research the best UV protection contact lenses. I have been wearing Acuvue Oasys since the beginning of my contact days per my Dr. recommendation. It gives my UV protection on both sides of the contact for the best protection.
Tip #2-Hair

Ok, so maybe you forgot to lather up your hair this summer! There are many products out there you can wash your hair with that may help limit damaging UV exposure, but it is very hard to hide your hair from the rays unless you wear it inside a hat all season. However, there are products that will help with the damage control. I use Crew products that I get from my salon fairly inexpensive.  I currently am using the Crew Grooming Spray because it has ingredients made to protect hair from UV damage. It uses aloe vera, natural humectants, UV protectants and a variable hold formation making it a healthy and effective product for your hair during and after the summer sun.

Tip #3-Skin

You may have used sunscreen everyday you spent hours outdoors, but what about the days you ran errands or found yourself stuck outdoors longer than you wanted to be without sunscreen handy. Unless you religiously apply an SPF30 or higher sunscreen everyday and several times a day, you are not 100% protected outdoors. Just mowing the lawn real quick without thinking of sunscreen is exposure enough to dry out your skin and damage some skin cells. UV damage can leave skin dehydrated and dull.  Sometimes your standard moisturizer is not enough. If your skin is left feeling the effects of the sun, use a repair cream such as the Neova DNA Total Repair. I have yet to try this brand, but came across it and love the ingredients it uses for UV repair. It ‘cleans up’ damaging effects of light and UV. It is available for all skin types-even sensitive skin.

Whether you are safe in the sun or a tad careless, remember to protect then repair your eyes, hair and skin. Also remember that the Rays do not go away forever. They are more prominent in the hot, clear sky summer months, but are here year round!
