Sat. 11/15/14 on the Hallmark Channel
If you have browsed the Hallmark card aisle in your local Walmart lately, you may have seen the large display of Hallmark Northpole gifts and cards. Northpole is a fun holiday move from the Hallmark Channel that will air on Saturday November 15, 2014 at 8:00 PM/ 7:00c. The Northpole gifts and cards you can find at select Walmart’s are a fun way to display the holiday magic that happens in your home this year. With the Northpole gifts you can have snowball fights with the Avaluncher, get messages everyday in December from the Nothpole Communicator, read stories with your new plush friends and more.
We had planned to head to Walmart and browse the books. We had a budget and the idea was to buy books that my son will deliver to kids in need this season. He is 6 and I am starting a new tradition this year with him. This is the perfect age to teach the spirit of giving and as a domestic violence survivor myself from my past and an Author on the subject, I knew I wanted to help our local Domestic Abuse Shelter. I would get books, my son would make Christmas cards by hand and we would attach the cards with a fun bow to each book and deliver them for the 15 kids currently at the shelter.
Our budget was not big enough for 15 books so we came up with a plan! He has a closet full of books already read and still in great condition. He asked if he could donate his books to the kids. I need to declutter his room so this works great. He fell in love with the Avalauncher as we discussed our new book plan and asked if he and his cousins can have an Avalauncher. That works great as a Christmas idea for my nephews. My son was so excited to grab the 3 launchers for him and his cousins and is anticipating our 80 mile drive to them on Christmas where the boys will have a blast with their Avalaunchers together! I even grabbed a bag of extra snowballs in case some get lost! In the meantime, we have a closet of books to go through and some cards to make for 15 other kids! What a kid and his ideas were so great!
Ways to give this season with your child
- Gather books in good condition and wrap them for shelters or organizations
- Have your child pick a tag form a giving tree and help shop
- Make handmade cards for seniors or shelters
- Call ahead and if baking is allowed, make cookies and deliver to senior centers or shelters
- Spend a meal or two serving in a soup kitchen, the younger kids can help set up
If you want a great way to introduce the magic of the season to your kids, start this Saturday night with a cup of cocoa and some snacks and watch the NORTHPOLE on the Hallmark Channel. A good Hallmark movie always sparks the spirit in everyone who watches the specials. After you see the movie, find some fun Northpole gifts you can donate or bring out on Christmas morning for the kids and watch the spirit of laughter and playtime come alive on the day of giving!
How will your child find the magic this holiday season?
