I am the label-reading Mom! I am that Mom that looks at a label and, unless I can justify feeding it to my family-such as a special treat or rare occasion, I know there are always healthier choices when it comes to certain foods. We have 3 boys-2 still live at home. The teenager and our second-grader prefer home lunches over the lines and food in the school cafeteria. We go through lunchmeat like crazy in this home, yet I splurge for the healthier choices.
When it comes to lunchmeat, there are 2 ingredients I am looking to avoid and they are preservatives and high sodium. Many, and I mean almost all, kinds of pre-packaged lunchmeats have an abundance of sodium. The levels in some lunchmeats are more than an elementary-age child should consume in one meal. Because the teenager may eat 2 in a day, I worry about the amount for his age, too. So, what do I buy? Well, I just discovered the Foster Farms All Natural Sliced Turkey!
Foster Farms All Natural Sliced Turkey is not only natural, but does not contain chemicals or preservatives! The meat sources are raised without hormones or steroids and it is 98% fat free. Now that is a lunchmeat I serve my family.

My #DontCallMeBasic Recipe Entry
For the contest, I made a Reverse Cordon Bleu. Over the weekend we went camping and visited a drive-in on the way out. I had the most delicious Chicken Cordon Bleu burger and it has been on my mind. This time, I wanted to try it with turkey. So it came to me-I can use pork instead of chicken and the turkey could replace the ham. This reverses the tradition Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe, hence the Reverse Cordon Bleu. I used the pork chop recipe I have been using for years, as it truly is our favorite recipe. It was delicious!
Reverse Cordon Bleau
- Pork Chops
- 2tbsp butter
- 2tbsp milk
- 1 egg
- Garlic Powder
- Seasoned Salt
- Bread (light buns or sandwich slices work best-heavy breads (ie. ciabatta) are a little much
- Provolone or Swiss cheese slices
- Foster Farms All Natural Sliced Slow Oven Roasted Turkey
Heat oven to 425. Melt butter and spread in baking dish. Mix egg and milk in a medium bowl. Dunk pork chops in egg mixture and lay in baking sheet. Sprinkle seasoned salt and garlic powder over pork and bake 10 minutes. Flip and season other side with garlic powder and seasoned salt and bake about 15 minutes more. Pork is done at 150 degrees with a meat thermometer. On one side of buns lay down cooked pork chop, on other side lay down a slice of the Foster Farms All Natural Sliced Turkey and a slice of cheese. Set oven to broil and place open faced under broiler until cheese is melting. Add any sauces, garnish, close sandwich and enjoy!
