Running an Airbnb is a great way to make some extra cash. It means more money in your pocket for travel and adventure, and it’s a great way to pay down pesky credit card debts or loans. It does take some work however. Airbnb is a cheaper alternative to a hotel, but it should be kept in roughly hotel conditions. To clean your Airbnb between visitors doesn’t have to be a huge chore, but it should be thorough enough that your guests don’t need to worry about who else has stayed in the room. To keep your Airbnb cleared out, there are a few steps you can follow to make sure you get the thorough clean that’s going to give you the top rating to keep your Airbnb going!

1. Get An Air Purifier

The smell is one of the top indicators of a good Airbnb. Even when you specify non-smokers, you’re likely to get a few sneaky cigarettes in your home. To keep your ratings up, invest in a HEPA air purifier for smoke and other particles. The right air purifier can quietly remove 98% of airborne dust and odor particles. That means smoke, dander, body odor and anything else. Keep your place smelling fresh with an air purifier in any of your Airbnb rooms. Air purifiers need to be cleaned every one to three months, so make sure to check your filter regularly.

2. Deep Clean The Walls

It’s costly and inconvenient to keep repainting your Airbnb, but continually washing the walls may cause damage to the paint job. Once every month or so, mixing half a cup of water with half a cup of white vinegar, and use a damp cloth or paper towel to gently wash the walls in a circular fashion. This will get rid of smudges, stains, and dirt. Pay special attention to the baseboards and moldings, where dust can be easily missed.

3. Wash Top Down

In a professional setting like a hotel, housekeepers utilize the top-down method. That means starting from the highest point, and dusting and scrubbing down so that everything will eventually fall to the floor. The same goes for scrubbing down the furniture. Start at the top point of chairs and headboards, and work your way down, to prevent dust settling. A thorough sweeping and mopping will get rid of the rest of the dirt.

4. Steam Clean Carpets and Upholstery

Carpets and upholstery hold on to smells, dust particles and hair long after your guests have left. Steam cleaning your carpet every month or two can help keep the worst of it from piling up, and regular vacuuming in between guests will ensure that you there is no buildup on carpets, rugs, or soft furnishings. Spot check and stain removers on chairs and mattresses add to the clean, stain-free environment. Switching to leather furniture where possible also makes your furniture easier to keep clean. Try leather furniture in your Airbnb rooms, to make it easier to clean up between guests, and more durable against both tears and stains.

5. Clean the Kitchen

Your kitchen should be a homey, inviting place for your Airbnb guests. Big jobs like cleaning the oven and scrubbing the fridge should be done at least once every two or three months. You should be mopping and scrubbing kitchen floors, countertops and walls between each guest. Glass cleaner can help you remove finger smudges from walls and chrome. If it’s been a while since you cleaned out your dishwasher or you’re noticing lime spots on the sink, pop a mix of water and white vinegar in the microwave for a minute, and then pour the mixture into the sink to get rid of stains. As a bonus, you should be able to sponge out any built-in grime from the microwave too! It makes things much easier.

6. Clean The Bathroom

A high bathroom score in an Airbnb review counts for a lot. Regular scrubbing of the bathroom means in between each guest, and at least once a week. Another important tip is to keep your bathroom supplies updated. Nothing more inconvenient than a bathroom run when you run out of toilet paper! Or leaving a mess in the bathroom and having no idea how to find the cleaners! Keep an eye on your bathroom supplies, and replenish regularly. Let your Airbnb guests know where the bathroom and kitchen cleaners can be found for small spills and accidents. Be sure to run drain cleaners in the kitchen and bathroom to avoid hair clogs and plumbing problems. The success of your Airbnb depends on your rating. To keep your ratings high, you want a thorough clean, and a homey atmosphere. Follow these tips to get a real deep clean in your rooms, get rid of smells, and make sure your guests have everything they need. All without sacrificing a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
