I was recently sent the DVD/CD set Rachel & the TreeSchoolers: A Rainy Day. This educational preschool set teaches your child all about the weather through Song, Dance, Sign Language, other children, Rachel (the teacher) and some friendly characters! My son is 4 1/2 and loves his ScoobyDoo, Star Wars and Avenger characters, so I wondered just how much I could hold his attention to a DVD that has no Superheros or popular characters. I set it up on his TV and he has been addicted to it ever since. It was a hit! It was 2 long days until show & tell and he was so excited to bring it. At his Daycare, she will play educational Videos for the kids if they bring them to share. He had it laid out and waiting the night before…I even caught him opening it up just to check it was all still together!
I did watch it with him and what I noticed is because he is right at the age of anticipating Kindergarten, he loved Rachel being the “teacher”. He was glued to her and enamoured by everything she was teaching. He plays the Thunder & Lightning song over and over which is great because he is terrified about Thunder and I think learning about it and hearing it in song allows him to understand what Thunder really is and it soothes him.
