Going Green is about small changes. You can take steps today to live more Green!
When asked to review the new book from Disney called Go Green, I jumped at the chance. As educated and health conscious as I am, I still struggle on a starting place to get my entire family to start making changes to lessen our environmental footprint. You hear all the news-we are experiencing global warming; our oceans climate and sea life are being effected and our future generations will be hurting if we do not do something today! But where do I start? I have a 6 year old, a teenager and a husband at home! How do I get them all to refocus? It is hard to know exactly what makes a difference and what we need to do to make sure our children and beyond are not left to clean up or mess generations down the road!
Disney Go Green was written to help you not only understand what it means to ‘Go Green’ but to understand how to start incorporating change into our daily activities. Go Green stresses that change does not mean uprooting your entire family structure, but that it is about small, simple changes you can make that will make a big difference. I love the ‘Did You Know’ sections throughout the book and there are some fun crafts and recipes to get the kids motivated to think about less waste and to connect with the environment. The book starts off discussing your own well-being. How do you feel satisfied with your own self? How do you connect with others? They want you to realize that “caring for yourself empowers you to care for your environment.”
My son found the recipe in the Summer Craft section of making your own sidewalk paint. He was eager for us to make it together. When I saw how simple it was, I knew this could become a constant summer activity for us. Let us show you our sidewalk paint we made…
The best part is it hoses off very easily! I recommend hosing off as soon as possible though. Depending on the type of coloring you use, you could be left with faint shadows on your concrete if you leave it to bake in the sun for long periods of time. Just assuming it will do this, so better to be safe than sorry.
1 part cornstarch and water PLUS food coloring of choice. Mix together well.
Paint & rinse!
Disney Go Green is available now and full of fun activities throughout all 4 seasons! Makes a great gift for any family!
