Saving Christmas is a fun holiday movie you will want to watch to get the Christmas spirit started. It stars Ed Asner , Patrick Muldoon, Brooke Langton, Jack Brunault, Tommy Dreamer (as himself), Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis (as herself).

The story line is about an X-Files of investigating of the truth about Santa. It really is quite witty for adults. However, Saint Nick is real and actually making toys right in town. Oh…and Santa has a social media director. As the truth unfolds you get comedy and a fu festive feeling. I watched with my 9 year old and we laughed many times throughout the movie.

Halloween TV Show and Movies

 Halloween TV Show and Movies

There are tons of things you can watch with your kids on Halloween that aren’t scary and are family-friendly. The following television shows and movies are perfect for Halloween when you want them to enjoy the holiday but not get frightened.

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus DVD

Since it came out in 1993, Hocus Pocus has become everyone’s favorite Halloween movie. It is fun to watch, not too scary, and family-friendly. The movie features three sisters who are witches and live in Salem. They come back centuries after their death when they get resurrected. An immortal black cat helps the young characters get rid of the witches for good and save everyone in town in the process.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Great Pumkin

If you turn on the television on Halloween or anywhere near it, you are bound to find this television special somewhere. It is a Charlie Brown special that originally aired in 1966. It features Charlie Brown and friends who are getting ready to go trick-or-treating, while Linus spends the night in the pumpkin patch, because of a story about ‘The Great Pumpkin’.

If your kids are around 9 or 10 or older, Coraline is a great Halloween movie. It is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman, who wrote a scary book meant for children and teens. Coraline is an animated movie that came out in 2009, with imagery similar to Nightmare Before Christmas. It features an alternative world that is much more dangerous than she was expecting.

Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie

Pooh Halloween

For the younger kids, there is a Halloween-themed Winnie the Pooh movie called Pooh’s Heffalump Movie. This takes place in the Hundred Acre Wood where it is Halloween and Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and the rest of the gang go on their regular adventures. This is great if you have babies or younger children, since it can be something they are able to watch for Halloween while the older kids either watch it, or play Halloween games in another room.

This is an older movie, and not necessarily a Halloween movie, but it is definitely one that is fun to watch during this season. Beetlejuice came out in 1988 and is one of Tim Burton’s first iconic movies. While it is somewhat of an exorcist and ghost movie, it isn’t too frightening. Older children and teens do love this movie a lot, though you might want to take a peek before you let younger kids watch it.

9/11 The Movie

Do you remember where you were on that frightful day that inspired this 9/11 The Movie ? I lived in Washington State and was driving to work. I was in a bit of a rush that morning so I had not turned on TV or even my radio in my car right away. As I drove down the highway I noticed a few cars pulled over. I wondered why some were pulled over in various spots-like off to the shoulder just sitting in their cars. It wasn’t eerie until I look over and one man has a look of shock in his eyes and his hand is over his mouth like he just got the worst news. He turned as I slowed and looked right at me is why I remember the look in his face.

What was I listening to?

I turned the radio on to our news station and the first thing I heard was “…oh no! oh no! oh my…” that was it so of course I am very curious and tad nervous. Then I hear “…another (another plane has flown into the second tower. What is happening?…” I was real worried now-what tower? And why is he saying “another plane”. So I pulled into work and was about to shut off my car when I hear the DJ say “If you are just tuning in and have not heard what is happening in NYC right now…” I remember staying in my car numb for quite a while absorbing all the details. I finally got out and started walking when I heard very loud rumbling. We live near Whidbey Island and a few other military bases and the sky is being patrolled, I imagined in the wake of planes hijacked everywhere and unknown threats in the air.

Educating my son

In July I took my 9 year old to NYC for our first time ever for a blog conference. We did take time to visit the 9/11 memorial and he was enlightened into that tragic day. On the fountain wall are names of victims and if it is their birthday that particular day there is a rose at their name. Someone put a fresh rose every day to honor victims birthdays from 9/11 as well as the World Trade Bombing. He wanted to find them all and stop at each one. Whether you witnessed that day or are 9 years old and learned about it at a tribute memorial, you don’t forget! Now we have a tribute, 9/11 The Movie is in theaters.

About 9/11 The Movie

9/11 opens in theaters on September 8 and features an all star cast including Luis Guzman(The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Wood Harris (Justified), Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge (BBC), Welcome to New York), Olga Fonda (The Vampire Diaries) and Bruce Davison (X-Men).

In the World Trade Center, a billionaire sits in his attorney’s office awaiting a divorce hearing against his wife. In a west side apartment, a bike messenger kisses his 5-year old daughter and sings her “Happy Birthday” before leaving for work. A maintenance man gets dispatched to help a tenant with his lock. In an upper east side apartment, a young model musters the courage to break up with her sugar daddy. As random as random can be, these individuals step into a crowded World Trade Center elevator.

Wrapped up in their own world, they all ride silently hearing only the sound of the elevator giving notice of each floor. When the elevator stops on the 34th floor, it empties leaving only these five behind. Moments later … their world changes as the collision of a jet into the North Tower incapacitates the elevator.

With no understanding of what has happened and is happening around them, these fives are forced to band together and fight against all odds to escape from the impending horrific collapse. During these critical minutes, a story of courage, faith, and the will to live unfolds.
