Big-Hearted Charlie Runs The Mile- Children’s Book

By: Krista Keating-Joseph

This children’s book, Big-Hearted Charlie Runs The Mile, is a true story about young Charlie as he is eager to join the track team despite his small size compared to his peers. The book starts off with a clear focus on his eagerness to run and join the team. He doesn’t win any races at first but with practice he not only starts to win but in his paths of growing up he becomes a true hero as a U.S. Navy SEAL.

Sadly, Charlie would lose his life as a SEAL and this story was hidden for some time until his mother finally became encouraged to finish her book and share a small piece of Charlie’s life events with us all. It is such a sweet read and the illustrations are simple yet full of emotion from characters on every page. Find Big-Hearted Charlie Runs The Mile from Smith Publicity on Amazon.

Sean Wants To Be Messi Series

By: Tanya Preminger

Sean is traveling the world with one passion in heart-soccer! And especially his favorite player, Leo Messi whom he may get a chance to meet in the second book, Sean Goes to Barcelona. The series takes a 9 year old boy and his passion of soccer to teach life skills that touch on school motivation, bullying, teamwork and more.

Any child, even who may not have the sports passion will relate to Sean and sort of feel for him too. It is hard to prioritize when you have one thing on your mind, but here are some great lessons for all children in chapter-style books with bright and engaging illustrations.

Lou Knows What To Do: Supermarket - A Book About Social Skills

Lou Knows What To Do: Supermarket (Book 1 of 3 in series)

By: Kimberly Tice and Venita Litvack

When our 9 year old was growing through stages in life it was books I would turn to when I needed tools. Books helped up potty train, get over the fears of the first day of school. Books helped when I needed to teach him against talking to strangers so freely and even for learning to tie his shoes. When your child goes through stages or even challenges, books can help you explain or teach your child at their level. Lou Knows What To Do is a series of 3 books and the first title in the series is Supermarket.

Lou has a special bubble wand that he carries around to help him see into the future so he knows what to do. A trip to the Supermarket is easier with his wand because he will know just what to expect and how to handle himself regardless of who he is with. He needs this help sometimes or it gets very tempting to want to run down aisles or make a fuss at checkout.

The story was written to show children how to apply social skills in their daily experiences. It is rated for Pre-K to Fifth Grade and is great for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Find Lou Knows What To Do: Supermarket this September on Amazon.

Freddie the Fly Motormouth: A Story About Listening - Book

Freddie the Fly: A Story About Listening

By: Kimberly Delude

When I hit middle school I was told by my parents and some friends that I was a motormouth. I talked and (perhaps it’s the Italian influences from my Grandparents who were the same way) I talked fast! I would here “Calm down, you’re talking too fast” or “My! You have a lot to say!” I learned and grew put of it in High School and like, Freddie the Fly am better off for learning to control my speech.

Kimberly Delude is a Certified Speech and Language Pathologist and this is her first children’s book. Freddie is told he is a motormouth and after meeting other just like him they work together to learn ways to pause and listen. It is in learning these new skills he finds out some pretty neat stuff about his friends all because he stopped to listen.

Freddie the Fly will be available in October on Amazon and you can preorder it now.

Fun with Fidget Spinners: 50 Super Cool Tricks and Activities

David King (of GeekBite)

It’s a $500M toy fad that most likely you or the kids have been a part of. The first time I heard of a fidget spinner was just a few months ago when a Mom on a community FB group posted that “…for anyone looking, we just found some fidget spinners at 7-11. They will run out so letting you know!” What is a fidget spinner? I asked my 9 year old and he jumped up and down. Apparently he not only knew and had seen a fidget spinner but heard they are no where to be found. He ran up to get his money and did not have enough so he begged to do chores and run down to the store ASAP. Now he has many of them. In fact, on a recent trip to NYC the first 3 souvenirs he bought with his spending money were fidget spinners that were in gift shops and street vendors.

For me, I played with one for a few moments and then was a bit unsure what I ought to do next. My son. however tosses and uses props so when I saw this book I knew he’d have a blast with the tricks and activities. Some are very challenging and others are just simple and fun.

The tricks are performed in photo by Pro Fidgeter (is that a title?) David King who is host to a show my son has watched on Youtube called GeekBite. Stack spinners, spin on water bottles and do skateboard flip ups. And for Mom and Dad who are curious, there is a section that provides information on the true health benefits of these fidget spinners. I set the book on the table and did some chores and when I cam back into the room, Anthony had put the Xbox controllers down and was flipping through the book with his spinner in hand. It took him away from the screen and that’s the best part of it for me.

Find the book at a great price on Amazon for Kindle or paperback.

Children’s Book about Learning From Failure – Mindset Matters

Sample copy sent for feature from Smith Publicity

Mindset Matters
By: Bryan Smith

Children do not like to lose. They need to learn and then learn to have fun but they take winning very seriously at times. Eventually that desire to win can begin to define them and that is not the direction we want our kids mindsets to head at that young age. Mindset Matters about Amelia who loves to skateboard. But, when she has a fall and hand injury and fears it will interfere with her sport she feels like a failure. Amelia’s Dad teaches here to have a different mindset. It is a mindset that about learning and growing.

Mindset Matters is great for the grades 1-5 age group. Teach your kids how to find their Gonna-Get-It-Done attitude. Not only is this book for the child athlete, but it can be related to sibling competition and hobbies as well as academics. Use Amelia’s story to start a conversation that will empower your child. I read this to my son the night before basketball camp.

Find Mindset Matters on Amazon and bookstores near you.
