“It’s the day Caring and Compassion Won”
If you were not in San Francisco on November 15,2013 you surely heard about the day that Batkid saved the city! I grew up in the San Francisco bay area and moved to Wa. State in 1992. When I heard about the Make-A-Wish campaign being put together in San Francisco for 5-year-old Miles Scott, I knew San Francisco was going to go big for this child. It is a city of so much diversity and so often forget to stop and come together in unity. The day Batkid saved the city brought more than a billion people together from around the world to watch this campaign unfold. I was glued to my TV following the story. There is something about a child who has suffered that will bring any community together and soften anybody’s heart. It is that bond that resulted in so many stopping for a moment to watch this child’s dream come true after his long battle with leukemia. If you missed it, you will get to see the entire campaign play out again in the new documentary: Batkid Begins if they can continue the successful IndieGoGo campaign that KTF Films will be running through August 19,2014. This will be a hit!
Batkid Begins is 5-year-old Miles Scott’s story. On that November day in 2013, the Make-A-Wish in Greater Bay Area decided to help make Mile’s only wish come true-he wanted to be Batman! Miles had just fought and won his leukemia battle and the only task left for him was to save a city-Batman style! No one anticipated the world-wide recognition this day would bring. Thousands of volunteers in the Make-A Wish Greater Bay Area came together to plan Mile’s day as Batman. In the end, the hastags #BatKid and #SFBatKid had over 1.84 million hits on Twitter and Instagram. Among the millions of hearts Mile’s captured, people like President Obama and famous celebrities sent messages and tuned in that day. A ‘course’ was created that sent Batkid through the streets of San Francisco and he caught his crook!
The IndieGogo Campaign
Batkid Begins: The Documentary is directed by Dana Nachman, an independent filmmaker and portrays the how and why this event came together and captured so many hearts that day. All proceeds from the documentary will benefit San Francisco charities. Make-A Wish Greater Bay Area grants over 300 wishes a year to children who have battled life-threatening illnesses and it will be amazing to see how they pulled this one off for Miles.
Your IndieGoGo campaign support will be used to finish off the $100,000 post-production price tag. KTF Films is teaming up with many well-known musicians, animators and visual effects professionals who have all agreed to work at reduced rates to complete this film. For those who can support, there are fun perks! Some perks include your name in film credits, digital download and soundtrack of the movie, mugs, capes and more! This campaign will end on August 19, 2014. I contributed my $25 and will get my name in credits and a social media shout out! Will you join the team?
